Sorry to disappoint you, although it seems as if this artist is photoshopping herself in real time, a new super software has not been created! “Nouveau Parfum” by Hungarian singer Csemer Bolglarka, AKA Boggie is a comment on the ills of the beauty industry that has women chasing after a non existent ideal. (Translated lyrics below)
If you scroll down the comments on the Vimeo page you will see a staggering amount of people demanding to know what software they used to make this video. It will come as no surprise to filmmakers that there are no shortcuts to creating seamless video like this, just plain old hard work and a big fat imagination. A lot of the alterations you see happening here are actually caused by makeup and lighting.
The filmmakers produced four different videos with varying lighting conditions and at different stages of a makeover. They then gradually stitch them together in After Effects, carefully revealing different layers of video to give the appearance of it being done using software. Some changes obviously are made in after effects, for example the hair colour and brightness/contrast at the end, but mostly its ingenuity.
Apparently some people in the beauty world have jumped to their industry’s defence because it’s… ‘a trick’, as in they don’t have a magic wand that changes people in a matter of minutes. I think these people are doing worse things for the stereotype of the beauty industry by completely missing the point!
Anyhoo, great to see some imaginative use of software and a thought provoking music video. Hats off to the directors Nándor Lőrincz and Bálint Nagy.
This is my best effort at translating the lyrics:
Be it Prada, Hugo Boss, Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Cartier, Azarro, Sisley, Escada, Gucci, Naf Naf, Nina Ricci, Lancome, Kenzo and more, more
Be it Bruno Banani, The Bastidane, Estee Lauder, Guerlain, Burberry and Thierry Mugler, Bourjois, Chloe, Jean Paul Gautier, Valentino and I do not know anymore
Which do I choose?
Why I am choosing?
Who wants me to choose?
I am not their product
Of beauty, of preciousness
They can not change me
Unparalleled, not the same
The new fragrance is myself, new perfume
Be it Roberto Cavalli, Bulgari, Givengi, Dolce & Gabana, Paco rabana, soit Lacoste Tommy Hilfiger, Yves Saint Laurent and I don’t know anymore
Which do I choose?
Why I am choosing?
Who wants me to choose?
I am not their product
Of beauty, of preciousness
They can not change me
Unparalleled, not the same
The new fragrance is myself, new perfume
